Siphon Background Information

Siphon

Siphon is a Ruby on Rails application with C# .NET clients. The website portion of siphon accepts incoming to receive ideas from clients (done) and to send out idea updates (in progress) .

I feel that this distributed model will allow the user to input their thoughts into whatever digital medium they have available at the moment. Once the idea updates component is actualized, the user will also have access to all the ideas they have entered and organized anywhere.

How is this different from OneNote or a synchronized notepad? Siphon is meant to overcome what I find to be lacking in current ‘internet enabled’ applications.

The Internet is starting to mature. So why is it that we’re still limiting ourselves with a lot of archaic metaphors (mail, file, folder, desktop) to convey the information development and exchange that we want to do? Why is it that if I’m trying to show my coworker a picture I took this weekend with my camera, and all I have available is my cell phone, I must have previously uploaded it to some pic-sharing site? Why can’t I just show it?

My long-term vision for Siphon includes addressing these kind of issues. I want information to be globally accessible, permanently persistent, and most of all – I don’t want to pay for it! (I don’t want you to pay for it either)
