What is Siphon?
The
Siphon application (currently in
alpha testing) on this website is tool for organizing and completing ideas. It’s a little different from other information management tools in the following respects
- It has a client (currently windows) portion for near-instant idea entry. The client then waits until has an internet connection to send the idea to the server.
- Once the idea makes it to the server, it’s put into a workflow that prompts the user to make decisions on what the idea is and how they want to deal with it. This is somewhat analogous to the GTD methodology.
I’ve found the major benefit of this system is that it separates idea actualization into three areas
- you have the idea
- you make a decision on how you could accomplish it
- you actually take steps towards your goal.
A lot of good ideas simply get bogged to death by people putting the cart ahead of the horse and worrying about subsequent steps, never actually getting started.
How does one use this so called Siphon?
- Create an account on this site
- Download the appropriate client
- Use the client to add ideas
- Come back to this site and use the inbox to make decisions about your ideas
- Go to next actions to see what you could be doing next.
